In Memory of

Giorgio Bronzetti

The professor Giorgio Bronzetti dead on 1st January 2005.

He was a friend and a father for us. We met him in Pisa in October 1997, in the occasion of conference on “Diet, mutagenesis and cancerogenesis”. Right from the beginning, we were in close contact with him for carrying out a survey on effects of selenium on health. He was a scientist that not lock himself in a laboratory, but he tried to let share in everybody who wants to investigate new scientific ways for health improvment. We published some works with him. Thanks to him, it has been possible make plans to do the research on relationship between nutrition and aging. Thanks to him, we became very fond of scientific research. He was a scientist with big human quality: a man of science and of solid friendship. He was able to reap the best of live (family, work, friendship, good food and wine) and to communicate a great zest for life. We are missing you forever, dear Professor Bronzetti.

Yours Antonietta Antoniciello, Michele Panunzio, Food and Nutrition Hygiene Service of the Local Health Authority in Foggia, Italy.

Giorgio Bronzetti was almost a large- than-life figure in the
mutagenesis-antimutagenesis fields. He regularly attended international
meetings, and willingly volunteered for organisational committees and
collaborative relationships. His enthusiasm for the field was infectious. In recent years, he worked with myself and Prof Silvio De Flora, on the organisational committee for the 8th International conference on antimutagenesis and anticarcinogenesis. Although Giorgio's health was already deteriorating at that time, he was determined to continue to host the meeting in Pisa, and to hold an excellent conference. The fact that he did this earned him considerable respect. Giorgio was a warm and generous friend, and an engaging personality. As well as science, he enjoyed good wine, good food and good company. He will be sadly missed.
